Some observations and evaluations about the musical elements in Europe take part in the sixth and the seventh volumes of the Seyahatnâme of Evliya Çelebi along many subjects. The identity of Ottoman intellectuals and the music knowledge which are owned by Çelebi, render these observations and evaluations notable. Consequently, it is possible to get some clues from the Seyahatnâme about the view of the European music of the Ottomans in the 17th century. The western musical elements which are encountered in the Seyahatnâme are examined under the headings of the religious music, the military music having religious and secular characteristics and the secular music in this essay. Furthermore, the meanings attributed to the western musical elements by Çelebi and the impressions of Çelebi about the musical effects of these elements are discussed in this article
