Abstract enOpening up international trade in the Black Sea and the invention of steamships led to the increase of commercial activities in the Black Sea coast of the Ottoman Empire. Being the major port cities, Trabzon and Samsun initially took the largest share of this trade. Since the second half of the 19th century, also other small port cities in the Black Sea’s coast began getting a share from maritime trade. This provided development of small towns in the Black Sea coasts of Anatolia and increase the trade potential. Ordu which is a small harbor town, was affected by occurred developments in this period. The town's economy revived numerous during this period. Previously, the town's economy it was introverted, but later became a popular port for steamships destination. Thus, it met with foreign markets and integrated with international markets. In this work, we will evaluate, by using Trabzon Provincial yearbooks, commercial potential of the Ordu port at the beginning of the 20th century
