The theory of evolution has influenced on religious studies like as the other humanitarian sciences that was arised in XIX. century. The history of religions that was established in those days has been approached to the religious material by the evolutionary viewpoint. Besides, Friedrich Max Müller (1823–1900) who was the founder of the history of religions characterizes himself as an evolutionist. To him religious story of human being began in a primitive stage and has grown up to todays modern religions day by day. Although Müller agrees with Darwin’s opinion that mankind has evolved from a primitive stage, he criticizes a few aspects of Darwinian theory of evolution that all living things has emerged from a single ancestor and human beings descended from apeAccording to him the idea of evolution was a reality that was known before Darwin. In addition the Darwinian theory of evolution is wrong in the idea of the fact that humanity descended from apes and the creation was accidentally occured. In this article, Friedrich Max Müller’s understanding of evolution will be tried to determine and his criticisms to the Darwinian idea of evolution will be discussed.
