The aim of this study is to investigate the opinions of classroom teachers of 4th and 5th grades primary schools about teaching - learning component of social studies course curriculum. The qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews held with (n=17) classroom teachers working at primary schools located in the city center and provinces of Bolu during 2010-2011 academic year. For the analysis of the qualitative data, content analysis technique was used. The classroom teachers reported that the constructivist learning theory affects the roles of teachers and students in the teaching - learning component of social studies course curriculum and it is observed that they believed that the implementation of instructional activities during teaching - learning process have positive effects. Additionally, they stated that students are active participants due to the activity-based process, the learning process is less monotonous than the previous program and added that this fact facilitates and contributes to the better understanding of the students.
