In this study the value of media literacy, that became an important concept in nowadays, is discussed by comparing it with other literacies and as media literacy education took its place in educational context by being integrated into teaching program, it is aimed to explain pre-service teachers’ media usages and their expectations from media. Kemal KARAMAN 52 common and intensively used medias in daily life, are handled in this study and attempted to explain pre-service teachers’ TV watching purposes, programs that they mostly watch and internet usage purposes along with characteristics of programs which they sees and their expectations from media. In 2007-2008 academic years, 495 pre-service teachers from Usak University, Faculty Education, Department of Turkish Teacher Education, Department of Primary School Education and Department of Social Studies Education participated in this study. Data is collected by a survey which is developed by researchers. Descriptive statics were used in data analyses. Findings showed that pre-service teachers watch TV mostly for “watching news”, “news and news programs” are the mostly watched programs by them and they use Internet mostly for “accessing information”. Beside this, “informing and transferring news” function comes at the first range among expectations of pre-service teachers from media.
