Bu çalışmanın amacı, fen ve sosyal bilimler kökenli öğretmen adaylarının bilim insanı algılarını belirleyerek aradaki farklılıkları ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada, mevcut durumu tam olarak ortaya koyabilmek için Alan Taraması (Survey) Yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılında Kafkas Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde öğrenim gören toplam 314 öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Chambers (1983) tarafından geliştirilen Bir Bilim İnsanı Çiz Testi (Draw A Scientest Test-DAST)’nden faydalanılmıştır. DAST’tan elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerden hareketle, öğretmen adaylarının çizimlerinde 6 farklı temaya (fiziksel özellikler, kişisel özellikler, mesleki özellikler, çalıştığı ortam, kullanılan malzemeler, bilim insanı modeli) odaklandıkları görülmüştür. Her bir tema için yapılan çizimler araştırmacılar tarafından incelenmiş ve bu çizimlerden elde edilen kodlar ilgili tema altında sınıflandırılmıştır. Araştırmanın neticesinde, fen bilimleri kökenli öğretmen adaylarının bilim insanını, marjinal görünümlü, dağınık, önlük giyinen, deney yapan, icat yapan, problemlere çözüm üreten, çalışma ortamı olarak laboratuarı ve laboratuardaki malzemeleri kullanan bireyler olarak algıladıkları görülürken; sosyal bilimler kökenli öğretmen adaylarının bilim insanını, klasik görünümlü, düzenli, evrensel ve çok yönlü düşünen, çalışma ortamı olarak kütüphane ve çalışma odasını kullanan bireyler olarak algıladıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğretmen adayları, bilim insanını erkek, gözlüklü ve çalışma ortamı olarak doğayı kullanan bireyler olmaları hususunda ortak görüş bildirmişlerdir.
The aim of the present study is to find out the differences by identifying the perceptions of student teachers at science teaching and social studies teaching programs toward scientists. Survey research design was used for the study to explore the current situation. 314 student teachers attending Kafkas University Faculty of Education in 2013-2014 academic year participated in the study. As the data collection tool of the research, Draw A Scientist Test (DAST) developed by Chambers (1983) was employed. To analyze the data gathered through DAST, content analysis was used. The results of the study indicate that student teachers have focused on 6 different themes (physical characteristics, personal characteristics, professional features, working environment, materials in use, scientist model) in their drawings. Drawings for the each theme were examined by the researchers, and the codes based on these drawings were categorized under the relevant theme. The findings of the study reveal that while prospective science teachers perceive scientists as individuals who are in a marginal appearance, messy, wear aprons, do experiments, invent something, find solutions for the problems, use the laboratory and the laboratory equipment prospective social studies teachers view scientists as those who are in a classic appearance, tidy, think in a global and multi-perspective way, use the library and the office as the working environment. Student teachers have commonly expressed about scientists that they are male with glasses and use the nature as their working environment.
