The aim of this article is to draw attention to the functions of hadîth within the orientalist system. One of the important topics investigated in this article is in regards to how these terms formed by the orientalists are reflected within the Islamic world and how the Muslim scholars should approach these terms. Especially as being outside observers, it is defended here that the orientalist analyses can be used to open new doors with regards to studies in the history of hadith. This, however, can only be achieved by the “icra’ method”, where the related term must be purified from its orientalist meaning and interpretation, figuring out where it corresponds to within the history of hadith, as well as providing an explanation for it through the perspective of Muslim scholars.
