NEVRUZ IN OUR FOLK POETRY One of the oldest traditional spring festivals in Turkish world is Nevruz. This festival which has been celebrated for ancient time in different names and in different rituals coincidences with the date March, 21 in which the day-time and the night is equal, according to the Turkish Calendar with 12 Animals. It is also accepted that Nevruz is the date when Kok-Turks left from Ergenekon Valley and gained their independence. Nevruz has been disguised within the various beliefs in Turks and different Eastern communities. In pre-Islamic period of time, folk poets who sing their folk poems examples with kopuz (a kind of musical instrument used by ancient Turks), shaman, kam, baksı and ozan (poet), …kept their arts in Anatolia under the name of “ozan” repeatedly, after they accept Islam as religion. After the 15th century, they were called as “aşık” (lover) and song their poems pertaining with the Nevruz as companying with the “saz” (a stringed instrument). Babür Shah, as ruler poet, in his work Babürname, Kaygusuz Abdal, Pir Sultan Abdal, Aşık Ali İzzet Özkan, Kerim Dede, as folk poems, dealt with the Nevruz in their poets.
