Since 1990, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has published and introduced a series of annual Human Development Reports (HDRs) in which the human development index (HDI) is computed for large number of countries. This paper discusses the human development index in national dimension and specially Turkey and Eskişehir. The data from the Human Development Reports of Turkey and the results are compared to other provinces’s HDIs of Turkey. We find that Eskisehir’s HDI rank affected negatively in addition, Eskişehir’s high HDI rank depends on its educational attainment rather then longevity and standard of living which are composed indicators of the HDI
