Smart phones are one of the important technological devices that, due to their various functions and ease of use, the rate of use and frequency are constantly increasing. Nomofobia, in other words, the fear of being away from the smartphone is a disorder that has emerged recently along with the constantly developing technology. Nomofobia arising from excessive and irregular use of smartphones has been found in many young individuals. The study, which was conducted at the University of Ardahan, examined the relationship between the levels of nomofobia (N=395) of students studying in the 2017-2018 academic year and the objective well-being (happiness). The research was developed by Hills and Argyle, and the Nomofobia Scale (NMP-Q) developed by the Oxford Happiness Scale-Short Form and Correia was used. In addition, questions that contain information about the demographic and mobile phone use of students were used. The obtained data has been tested with visual statistics, correlation analysis and ANOVA. According to the results of the analysis, students’ nomofobia levels were slightly above the average, while happiness levels were slightly above the average. Nomofobia is identified as a low-dimensional fear of high-mediate communication failure. There was a reverse relationship between the fear of losing the connection of students and the levels of happiness. On the other hand, it was found that women were more nomofobic than men, that students between 17 and 23 years of age were more afraid of being able to communicate, that students who used the phone for 3-4 years were more nomofobic than those who used the phone for less than 1 year. Students who checked their phone 1-16 times, 33 times or more, and students who didn’t carry the charging device, were found to be less nomofobic than students who carried their phone. It has also been found that students who check their smart phones when they wake up, spend time with their phone before bed and don’t turn off their phone at night have high levels of nomofobia.
