Özet:

Today, popular medicine, which has become the center of interest in society with the names of "alternative medicine", "complementary medicine", has an important place in the Turkish culture. In the periods in which science has not yet developed, the possibilities and beliefs that nature offers for the protection of human health and for the provision of diseases have been effective in the appearance of practices included in public medicine. In addition to the methods indicated by the medicine, public medicine, which includes the methods of provision that the people have developed, contains therapy by natural means as well as a number of religious beliefs-based practices in it. The Turkish folk medicine, in addition to Islamic faith, also includes beliefs about the ancient Turkish religion. In the Anatolian geography there is a certain culture formed within the framework of public medicine, but the possibilities and conditions of living provided by the geographical area found public medicine practices varied from place to place. In this study, Manisa and Sivas area public medicine practices will be comparatively studied. The same and different aspects of the beliefs and practices of both locations in public medicine will be assessed.
