Abstract:

The sense of reading that exists in the nature of man has also him to produce inventions and innovations while guiding him to discover. Reading habits play a very important role in the development of curiosity. It also helps the individual to gain different perspectives in evaluating events, as it is effective in creating his own personality, his truths and values. The reading habit and curiosity that exists in the teacher candidates can also have a positive impact on the student’s identity development after the beginning of the profession. The purpose of this research is to explore the relationship between the interests and discoveries of the teacher candidates studying in pre-school and classroom teaching programs and their attitudes towards the reading habit. The study’s work group is 222 (167 women, 55 men) students who are studying in the 1st and 3rd classes in the Faculty of Education Class Teaching and Pre-School Teaching programs. The research data is obtained by Kashdan and Ark. (2009) developed by "Curiosity and Discovery Scale II (MKII)" and developed by Susar Red (2012) used "Teacher Advocates' Approach to Book Reading Habit (ORAKOT)" . According to the results obtained, there was a mean-level meaningful relationship between the curious and discovery perceptions of the teacher candidates and their attitudes towards reading books. The attitudes of women’s students towards the reading habit are more positive than the attitudes of men’s students. The study group of the study consisted of 222 (167 female, 55 male) students in the 1st and 3rd grade in the Faculty of Education Classroom and Preschool Education programs. In obtaining the research data, Kashdan et al. (2009) developed "Curiosity and Exploration Scale II" and Susar developed by Susar Red (2012) "Attitude Scale for Prospective Teachers' Reading Habits (ORAKOT)." According to the results, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the pre-service teachers' perceptions of curiosity and discovery and their attitudes towards reading books. Female students’ attitudes towards reading habits are more positive than male students’ attitudes. Attitudes towards reading habits are higher than those who read more than those who read less.
