Vehhâbî hareketine geniş bir perspektiften bakan bazı tezler dışındaki Vehhâbîlik’le ilgili kaynaklar, hareketin ortaya çığtığı dönemin özellikleri konusunda hemfikirdirler. Bu kaynaklarda çizilen genel çerçeve Muhammed b. Abdilvehhâb’ın (ö. 1206/1792) Hicaz, Irak ve Suriye’ye yaptığı ilmî seyahatleri sırasında insanların İslâm’ın Ehl-i sünnet yolundan saptığını görmesi ve İslâm’a dahil edilen bidat ve hurafelerin ayıklanması gerektiği kanaatine varmış olmasıdır. Vehhâbî hareketinin misyonu konusundaki görüşlerin en temel olanı hareketin dinî olduğu söylemidir ve daha çok kendilerinin tanımlamaları bu yöndedir. Ancak hareketin dinîlik boyutunun dışında siyasî, ekonomik, bedevilik, asabiyye gibi başka sebepler de sayılmıştır. Ayrıca Vehhâbîliğin farklı şekillerde isimlendirilmesiyle hareketin ortaya çıkış sebebinin dinî mi siyasî mi olduğu ya da hareketin Ehl-i sünnet çizgisinde mi yoksa ondan bir sapmaya mı işaret ettiği anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır. İbn Abdülvehhâb’ın fikirlerinin yaygınlık kazanmasıyla eleştiriler ve karşı çıkışlar da başlamıştır. Hareketin yaklaşımlarını kabul etmeyen ve onunla fiilî savaşan emîrler olduğu gibi, İbn Abdülvehhâb’ın ve tâbilerinin fikirlerini, metotlarını çürütmek, yanlışlığını ortaya koymak maksadıyla risâle, kitap ve makale yazan birçok müellif vardır. Buna karşılık bu reddiye kültürüne cevap niteliğinde literatür de oluşmuştur. Bu makaledeki amaç hareketin ortaya çıkışı ve misyonu konusunda ileri sürülen görüşleri ve bu çerçevede yapılan eleştirileri bir bütün olarak görmek ve değerlendirmektir.
Except for some theses that look at the Vehhâbî movement from a broad perspective, the sources related to Vehhâbîlik agree on the characteristics of the period in which the movement emerged. The general framework drawn in these sources is Muhammad b. Abdilvehâb (e.g. 1206/1792) Hicaz is that during his scientific trips to Iraq and Syria, the people saw that Islam was distracted from the way of the Ehl-i Sunnah and that the bidats and hurafs included in Islam should be removed. The point of view on the mission of the Vehhâbî movement is that the movement is religious, and more of their own definitions are in this direction. But beyond the religious dimension of the movement, political, economic, bedevicism, and other reasons are also counted. In addition, it has been tried to explain whether the cause of the movement's appearance is religious or political or whether the movement is in the Ehl-i synthesis line or indicates a deviation from it. With the popularity of the ideas of Ibn Abdülvehâb, criticism and opposition began. As the orders that do not accept the approaches of the movement and are actually fighting with it, there are many authorities who write the messages, books and articles in order to disrupt the ideas, methods and errors of Ibn Abdülvehâb and his followers. In response to this rejection culture, literature was also formed. The objective of this article is to see and evaluate the opinions and criticisms made in this framework as a whole about the emergence and mission of the movement.
