Modal sözler Azerbaycan Türkçesinde bütün yönleriyle tasnif edilmiş bir sözcük kategorisi olarak yer almaktadır. Azerbaycan Türkçesinde modal sözler anlamlarına göre 1. Tasdik bildiren modal sözler. 2 Şüphe, tereddüt bildiren modal sözler. 3 Netice ve genelleştirme bildiren modal sözler. 4. Kişinin fikrini bildiren modal sözler. 5. Sıra ve ardışıklık bildiren modal sözler. 6. Benzetme veya mukayese bildiren modal sözler. 7. Hayıflanma bildiren modal sözler olarak toplam yedi grupta sınıflandırılmaktadır. Azerbaycan Türkçesinde modal sözler cümlenin başında ortasında ve sonunda kullanılmaktadır. İmla gereği modal sözler cümle başında ve sonda virgülle ayrılır. Cümle ortasında kullanıldığında ise iki virgül arasına alınır. Modal sözler yapısına göre basit ve ya birleşik olabilirler. Modal sözler cümle içinde bir öge olarak kullanılmazlar. Modal sözler kullanıldığı cümlenin tamamının anlamını etkiler. Türkiye Türkçesinde modal sözler kategorisi yoktur. Bu kategori daha çok Rus bilim adamlarının Türk lehçe ve şivelerinde yaptıkları bir tasniftir. Çağdaş Türk lehçelerinin hemen hemen tamamında bu kategori yer almaktadır.
