Child neglect and abuse is an important social problem that affects not only the child and the family being exposed, but also the society in which they live. In this respect, child protection services, which play an important role in protecting children from all kinds of neglect and abuse, should be examined and evaluated. The aim of this study is to examine the opinions and remarks of social workers in the Child Protection Units (CPU); their professional attitudes and approaches in evaluating child neglect and abuse cases; and the problems they face and their solution offers in this respect. In this study, which was designed with qualitative research method, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 social workers working in Child Protection Units in Konya between April-May 2019. Content analysis was used for data analysis. In the initial evaluation process of child neglect and abuse cases, it was determined that the parents were overreacting, rude and refusing the interview; the pressure applied to the victim child made it difficult to explain neglect or abuse; the social workers had difficulty in explaining sexual abuse and incest cases to the family members and they were indecisive in the evaluation process. Among the problems experienced in child protection services; it was determined that there was a lack of employee in terms of quantity and quality and there was no in-service training. Increasing the number of employees, providing in-service trainings, employing post-graduate professionals in the field of sexual abuse and introducing a supervisory system were among the suggestions mentioned.
