Orta Çağ’da Şam diyarında Filistin’in doğusu ile Amman’ın kuzeyinde yer alan Aclûn şehrinde bulunan Aclûn Kale’sinin, ilk inşasından itibaren dönemi boyunca önemini sürdürmüş stratejik bir merkez olduğu görülmektedir. Kalenin de içerisinde yer aldığı Aclûn şehrinin, bölgedeki önemli yerleşim alanlarından birisi olduğu bilinmektedir. Hiç kuşkusuz şehri önemli ve cazip bir yer konumuna getiren özelliklerin başında, şehrin bölgede merkezi bir yerde bulunması ve savunma için güçlü bir kaleye sahip olması gelmektedir. Aclûn Kalesi’nin Türk ve İslâm tarihi açısından önemli bir yeri bulunmaktadır. Örneğin; Aclûn Kalesi, Haçlı saldırılarına karşı korunmak maksadıyla 1184 yılında Selâhaddin Eyyûbî’nin komutanı İzzeddin Üsâme tarafından inşa ettirilmiştir. Ayrıca daha sonraki süreçte Moğollara karşı Mısır diyarını müdafaa edecek savunma hattının, Memlûkler tarafından Aclûn’da teşekkül ettirilmiş olduğu görülmektedir. Gerek Haçlılara karşı korunma amaçlı kalenin inşa edilmesinin gerekse Moğollara karşı savunma hattının burada oluşturulmasında Aclûn şehrinin, merkezi konumda bir yer olmasının yanı sıra güçlü bir kaleye sahip olmasının da etkili olduğu görülmektedir. Eyyûbîler ve Memlûkler döneminde altın çağını yaşayan Aclûn Kalesi, Osmanlılar Dönemi’nde seleflerine nazaran önemini yitirmiş ve nihayetinde son asırlardaysa eski stratejik önemini kaybetmiştir. Bu çalışmamızda Orta Çağ’da Aclûn Kalesi’nin hususiyle Eyyûbîler ve Memlûkler zamanında üstlenmiş olduğu fonksiyonlarına ve önemine işaret edeceğiz. Bunlara ilaveten bizatihi müşahede edip inceleme fırsatı bulduğumuz Aclûn Kalesi’nin çekmiş olduğumuz bazı fotoğraflarına da çalışmamızda yer vereceğiz.

Aclûn Castle, built in the city of Damascus in between the east of Palestine and in the north of Amman in the Middle Age, is seen as a strategic center which has maintained its importance throughout the period from its first construction. It is known that the city of Aclûn, where the castle is located, is one of the important settlement areas in the region. Undoubtedly, one of the main features that make the city an important and attractive place is that the city is located in a central place in the region and has a strong castle for defense. Aclûn Castle has an important place in Turkish and Islamic History. It was built in 1184 by Izzeddin Usâme, the commander of Salâhaddin Eyyûbî, in order to protect from the Crusader attacks. It is seen that the city of Aclûn has a central position in the construction of the castle for the protection of the Crusaders as well as in the defense line against the Mongols. Aclûn Castle, which lived its golden age during the reign of Ayyubis and Mamluks, lost its importance in the Ottomans Period compared to its predecessors; and finally, it has lost its old strategic importance in the last few centuries. In this study, we will point out the functions and the importance of the Aclûn Castle under the Ayyubis and Mamluks in the Middle Ages. In addition to these, we will also present some photographs of the Aclûn Castle, where we have the opportunity to observe and examine the city itself.
