During excavation work conducted by Istanbul University in the West Necropolis of Perge, a pil-lar-type monument was unearthed that is shaped as an altar with an ossuary on top. The name of the deceased, which was inserted at the beginning of the inscription, is now lost. He served as a legal advisor (assessor) to L. Annius Annianus, who is mentioned in the funerary inscription as proconsul of Pamphylia-Lycia and Isauria. This otherwise unknown senator set up the monument as the deceased’s superior and friend. The inscription can be dated to the period of approx. 187/188–195/196 CE. In this brief span of time the eparchy of Isauria was part of the province of Pamphylia-Lycia. Another proconsul of Pamphylia-Lycia-Isauria, who is known from two inscrip-tions found in Attouda, is M. Flavius Carminius Athenagoras; after his proconsulate he became consul in around 190 CE.
