Abstract:

To determine the importance of corporate performance evaluation for publiclytraded companies and to measure the yearly performance of a publicly-traded company (Ege Gübre Sanayi A.Ş.) listed on the İstanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) according to TOPSIS multicriteria decision making method constitute the main aims of this study. In this context, firstly the way how TOPSIS multicriteria decision making method is used for the evaluation of a company's performance is explained. In the context of this study, for the period of 7 years, 17 financial ratios consisting of 5 groups, concerning Ege Gübre Sanayi A.Ş. which operate in fertilizer production sector and is treated at ISE, have been determined and these ratios have been analyzed using the TOPSIS multicriteria decision making method and performance scores have been computed. Then performance scores and rankings have been analyzed and interpreted for the appraisal of the firm. In line with the findings of the study it is expected that the positive and negative effects of the crisis, originating from United States of America (USA), on the firm would be determined in terms of liquidity, activity, financial structure, profitability and marketing performance. The results reveal that the company showed a fluctuating performance for the period and on the other hand the best financial performance has been achieved in the year of 2007 in spite of the supply and demand instabilities observed worldwide in the fertilizer sector.
