Kent kavramının ortaya çıkışı uzun yıllar öncesine dayanmakla birlikte, modern manada kentlerin oluşumu çok da eski tarihli değildir. Günümüz kentleri insanların hayatlarının büyük bir bölümünün şekillendiği, çocuklukların, gençliklerinin geçtiği, okul ve iş hayatlarının biçimlendiği mekansal ve sosyal alanlardan oluşmaktadır. Bu mekansal ve sosyal alanlar içinde insanlar kendileri gibi ya da çok farklı birçok insanla ortak kentsel bir alan paylaşmaktadır. Kentlileşme adı verilen kentte yaşamanın gerekleri olarak kabul edilen sosyo-kültürel norm ve değerler kent kültürünün oluşmasında önemli bir göstergedir. Kentte yaşayan insanların tüm farklılıklarına rağmen aynı mekanı paylaşması kentlileşme süreci üzerinde oldukça önemlidir. Kentte doğan insanlardan, sonradan kente göç eden insanlara kadar çok farklı insan topluluğunun aynı mekanı paylaşması kentin gelişim sürecinde önemli etkiler ortaya koymaktadır. Kentleşme sürecinde kırdan kente gelen insanların etkisi yanında günümüzde kentle arası seyahat ve iletişim alanında yaşanan etkileşim kent sakinlerini doğrudan etkilediği gibi kentsel düzenin sağlanmasında etkin bir kent yönetimine olan ihtiyacı artırmaktadır. Bu kapsamda ele alınan çalışma öncelikle kent, kentleşme ve kentlileşme süreci gibi kavramları ele almaktadır. Ardından kentleşme sürecinde kentsel yönetim ihtiyacını ortaya çıkaran durumlara yer vermekte ve son olarak kent yönetiminin bu süreçteki önemine değinmektedir.
Although the emergence of the concept of the city dates back many years, the formation of cities in the modern world is not very old. Today's cities are made up of spatial and social spaces in which a large part of people's lives are shaped, through childhood, youth, school, and business life. Within these spatial and social spheres, people share a common urban space with many different people, such as themselves. Socio-cultural norms and values, which are accepted as the necessities of living in a city called urbanization, are an important indicator for the formation of urban culture. Despite all the differences of the people living in the city, sharing the same place is very important on the process of urbanization. The fact that a very diverse group of people, from people born in the city to people who migrate to the city later, share the same place, reveals significant effects in the development process of the city. Besides the influence of the people coming from the city to the city during the process of urbanization, the interactions between the urban and urban areas directly affect the residents of the city and the need for effective urban management in the urban regime is increasing. The study covered in this context primarily addresses concepts such as urbanization, urbanization and urbanization process. Then, in the process of urbanization, it takes into consideration the situations that reveal the need for urban management and finally touches on the importance of the city administration in this process.
