Özet:

This study aims to evaluate the views of school managers on the English school managers training programs that can be based on the training of school managers in Turkey. Based on these views, school manager training programs have been evaluated on the basis of the analysis of needs, organizational arrangements, the effectiveness of educational activities, the content of the programs, the impact and benefits of the School Manager’s Leadership and Management Program [HEADLAMP] and the National Professional Qualification Program [NPQH] for School Directorate. Due to the absence of published evaluations of these programs, this research was designed in the form of information creation and developmental review and was conducted through the participants’ opinions on the processes and effects of these programs. According to the general trends of the participants, they have positive views on the nature of the school manager training; but (a) the assistant director, in particular, stated that they need serious support to participate in the management training while continuing to perform their current duties; (b) the participants emphasized the importance that this training should be carried out in the real school context; (c) also stated that the participants should take into account the nature of implementation in the regions. In this context, the studies on these programs and the latest changes made by the Teacher Education Organization [TTA] in this education, a critical assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the current research, the potential outcomes for the context of Britain and Turkey have been discussed.

Özet:

This study aims to evalutae the views of school administrators on England school headteacher training programs, which can be an example for the training of school headteachers in Turkey. Based on these views, school headteachers’ training programs are evaluated in terms of needs assessment, organizational arrangements, the effectiveness of educational activities, the content of programs, and effectiveness and benefits of Headteacher's Leadership and Management Program (HEADLAMP) and National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). Given a lack of published evaluations of these programs, a knowledge-building, developmental investigation was designed and conducted into HEADLAMP and NPQH participants' views of the processes and impact of these programs. Based on the general tendencies of the participants, it was determined that they had positive opinions about the quality of school headteachers’ training; however, a) deputy heads in particular expressed serious concern about the need for realistic support to engage in headship training whilst continuing to fulfil their existing posts; b) participants emphasised the importance of also including training provision situated within real school contexts; c) they emphasised the importance of quality of local implementation. In the context of other recent papers on these programs, recent alterations to them by the TTA and a critical reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of the present investigation, possible implications for the UK and Turkish situations were discussed.
