Fen Eğitiminde Kullanılan Kavram Karikatürlerinin Akademik Başarıya Etkisi: Meta-Analiz Çalışması

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı fen eğitiminde kullanılan kavram karikatürlerinin öğrencilerin akademik başarısı üzerindeki etkisini belirlemeye çalışmaktır. Bu amaçla yürütülmüş olan meta-analiz çalışmasında toplam 7 adet araştırma, çalışmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı doğrultusunda dâhil edilme ölçütlerini karşılayan araştırmalar, bir meta-analiz yazılımı olan CMA programı yardımıyla analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmaya dâhil edilen araştırmaların Hedges g’ye göre bireysel ve genel etki büyüklüğü katsayıları hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan analiz sonuçlarına göre fen eğitiminde kullanılan kavram karikatürlerinin öğrencilerin akademik başarısı üzerinde orta düzeyde etkiye sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Elde edilen bu sonuç, fen eğitiminde kullanılan kavram karikatürlerinin akademik başarı üzerinde önemli bir değişken olduğunu göstermektedir. Ancak daha geniş çaplı meta-analiz çalışmalarının yürütülebilmesi için kavram karikatürünün akademik başarı üzerinde etkisini inceleyen deneysel çalışmalara ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to try to determine the impact of the concept cartoons used in science education on student academic success. In the meta-analysis study that was carried out for this purpose, a total of 7 researches were included in the study. Research that meets the inclusion criteria in accordance with the purpose of the study was analyzed with the help of the CMA program, a meta-analysis software. The research included in the study according to Hedges g, the indicators of the individual and general impact size were calculated. According to the results of the analysis, the concept cartoons used in science education have a medium-level impact on student academic success. This result shows that the concept cartoons used in science education are an important variable in academic success. However, to be able to conduct wider meta-analysis studies, experimental studies are needed to study the impact of concept cartoon on academic success.

In the meta-analysis study conducted for this purpose, a total of 7 researches were included in the study. Researches that meets the inclusion criteria for the purpose of the study was analyzed using the CMA program, a meta-analysis software. The effect size coefficients of the researches included in the study were calculated according to the Hedges g. According to the analysis results, concept cartoons used in science education have a medium effect on student achievement. These result show that concept cartoons used in science education are an important variable on achievement. However, in order to carry out broader meta-analysis studies, there is a need for empirical studies that examine the impact of concept cartoon on achievement.
