I. Dünya Savaşı İttifak Devletleri ve İtilaf Devletleri arasında 1914-1918 yılları arasında gerçekleşti. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun da dahil olduğu İttifak grubu savaşı kaybetti. Bu büyük savaş sonrasında dünyanın siyasi haritası değişti. Kadim İmparatorluklar yıkılırken; onların sınırları üzerinde yeni devletler ortaya çıktı. Bu sürecin her aşaması farklı coğrafyalarda yaşayan toplumlar açısından son derece sancılı oldu. Savaşın geçtiği her coğrafyada hem cephede hem de cephe gerisinde insanlar; ölüm, hastalık, sakatlık, hayat pahalılığı, açlık… vb. sorunlarla başa çıkmaya çalıştı. Osmanlı Devleti de girdiği bu son savaşta maddi ve manevi tüm unsurlarını savaşa seferber etti. Devlet, askeri ve sivil vatandaşlarıyla koşulları son derece ağır bir sınava tabi tutuldu. Ülkede bozulan ekonomiyle birlikte sosyal hayatta bir çözülüş ortaya çıktı. Savaş yıllarında en temel tüketim maddelerinin temin edilmesi halk için neredeyse imkansız hale geldi. Ekonomik koşulların ağırlığı toplumun değerlerinde erozyon yaşanmasına neden oldu. Savaşla birlikle yaşamak özellikle de sade insan için son derece zor bir hal aldı. Bu makalede özellikle I. Dünya Savaşı’nda Osmanlı toplumunun gündelik yaşamda karşılaştığı sorunlar üzerinde durulacaktır.
The First Word War took place in 1914-1918 between the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. Including also the Ottoman Empire, the group of Central Powers lost the war. The political map of the world was changed following this big war. While the ancient empires were declined, new countries were established on their lands. Every phase of this process was very painful for the societies living on different geographies. On every geography touched by the war, the people tried to deal with problems such as death, diseases, disabilities, high cost of living, hunger, etc. both on the front line and behind the front. The Ottoman Empire also used its every material and nonmaterial means during this war which was its last war. The empire was subjected to a very severe war with its army and private citizens. The disorganization appeared in the social life in addition to the damaged economy. It became almost impossible of the people to find the most basic consumption goods during the war. The severity of the economic conditions caused erosion in the values of the society. Living together with the war became an extremely difficult occupation particularly for the common people. This article will particularly dwell on the problems encountered in daily life by the Ottoman society during the First World War.
