GÜRCÜLERDE KİMLİK, MEKÂN VE GÜNDELİK YAŞAM: ARTVİN ÖRNEĞİ

Bu çalışma, Artvin’de yaşayan Gürcülerin kimliklerini nasıl tanımladıklarını, kimliklerini nasıl inşa ettiklerini, inşa pratiklerinde hangi dinamiklerin yer aldığını, söz konusu dinamiklerde mekânsal olarak ne tür farklılaşmaların meydana geldiğini ve aynı zamanda tüm bu etmenlerin gündelik yaşama nasıl yansıdığını anlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaç çerçevesinde Gürcülerin yoğunlukta yaşadığı Artvin’in Borçka ilçesi ve bağlı köylerinde 8’i kadın 11’i erkek olmak üzere toplamda 19 kişiyle nitel araştırma yöntemi aracılığıyla derinlemesine mülakatlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Alan araştırması sonucunda, Artvin’de yaşayan Gürcülerin kendi kökenlerinin Gürcü olduğu bilincinde olmasının yanı sıra kendilerini Türkiye Cumhuriyeti vatandaşı olarak gördükleri, Türk ulusal kimliğine ait hissettikleri ve Müslüman kimliğine eklemlendikleri görülmüştür. Kendi kimliklerini inşa ederken, Gürcistan’da yaşayan Gürcüleri öteki olarak konumlandırdıkları ve bu öteki üzerinden kendilerini tanımladıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Gündelik hayatta sembolik değerlere dayalı kimlik inşa örüntülerinin mekânsal farklılaşma temelinde şekillendiği anlaşılmıştır.

Personality, place and daily life in the gardens: the example of Artvin

Abstract:

This study aims to understand how the Georgians living in Artvin identify their identities, how they build their identities, what dynamics are involved in the construction practices, what kind of differences are occurring spatially in those dynamics, and also how all of these factors reflect on the daily life. In the framework of this goal, deep interviews were conducted through the quality research method of Artvin’s Borçka district and related villages, with a total of 19 people, including 8 women and 11 men. The field research has shown that the Georgians living in Artvin are aware that their own origins are Georgians, as well as that they see themselves as citizens of the Republic of Turkey, feel they belong to the Turkish national identity and have been added to the Muslim identity. While building their own identities, the conclusion was achieved that the Greeks living in Georgia were positioned as the other and identified themselves by the other. It is understood that in daily life, the identity buildings based on symbolic values are formed on the basis of spatial differentiation.

This research aims to understand; the identity of Georgians and how they identify and build their identities; which dynamics have a role in this building process; what kind of environmental differences occurs in these dynamics; and also how all these elements affect the daily life. In accordance with this aim, in-depth interviews have been carried out within the context of the qualitative research method with totally 19 people; consist of 8 women and 11 men, from Borçka which is the district of Artvin and from the neighbor villages. The result of field study puts forth that Georgian-origin people living in Artvin identify themselves as the citizens of the Republic of Turkey; moreover, they feel as a part of the Turkish national identity and they are articulated to the Muslim identity. In addition, the survey reaches the result that while these locals build their identity; they otherize Georgians living in Georgia and identify themselves through this “other”. It is understood that the identification patterns based upon symbolic values in daily life have been shaped on the basis of spatial differentiation.
