Abstract:

Today, there are a number of reasons that disrupt work peace in the workplace, negatively affect performance, reduce productivity, and lead to dissatisfaction. This feeling, which develops depending on the perception of the personnel, can affect not only the business life, but also the family and social life of the individual. The phenomenon of violence emerges as an important factor in the negative development of this perception. The phenomenon of violence that disrupts the working peace in social sciences is handled with different dimensions. These; workplace violence, occupational violence, customer violence, violence perpetrated by patient-patient relatives. The Covid-19 epidemic, which determined the starting point of the research and affected the whole world starting from the last month of 2019, caused total changes in the field of health as in other sectors. During this period, healthcare workers were at the forefront of the front. They faced many negative situations such as overtime, unauthorized work, harsh working conditions and insufficient medical equipment, and occupancy in intensive care units. In the fight against the epidemic, non-governmental organizations and governments have carried out different activities to support healthcare workers (Applauding healthcare personnel at certain hours, turning off the lights, wage support…). The aim of this study is to determine the violence applied to healthcare personnel by the patient-patient relatives during the Covid-19 period. In this context, qualitative research method, phenomenology design, and in-depth interview technique as data collection method were used. The study group of the research consists of fifteen health personnel working in a state hospital in Turkey. While analyzing the data, the descriptive analysis technique, one of the data analysis strategies, was used. As a result of the analysis, first of all, finding and eliminating the causes of violence, providing education to citizens and supporting health personnel are among some suggestions put forward by the participants. In the literature, types of violence are defined in many studies as verbal, physical, sexual and psychological. In this study, the security of personal data and violation of privacy, which is not seen as a type of violence in the literature, has also been revealed as another type of violence. Another finding is that while it is stated that there is a positive development in the perspectives of patients and their relatives against the healthcare personnel who fight at the forefront of the front in the event of a major epidemic, there are also participants who stated that nothing has changed.
