This study examines the three works of Ahmed Midhat Efendi, History-i Umumi, Mufassal History-i Kurun-i Cedide, and Kainat, and addresses the author’s view of the history science, world history and the state of world history in the Ottoman State. With the opening of the Ottoman State to the world in the 19th century, the Ottoman history has also passed to a wider universal perspective from a narrow place and a greater understanding of historism that is stuck in local identities. This study shows that the three works of Ahmed Midhat Efendi are the first examples of this transitional period.
