İngiliz yazar Jane Austen’ın temel izleğine aşkı alan ve ilk yayımlanan romanı Sense and Sensibility mektup formatında yazılmıştır. Üç cilt halinde yayımlanmış olan yapıt üzerinde 1790’lardan 1811 yılına kadar pek çok düzeltme yapılmıştır. Farklı dillere çevirisi yapılmış olan roman gerek başlığı gerekse anlatı yapısıyla sosyal, ekonomik, düşünsel, ahlaki ve etik açıdan İngiliz toplumunun normlarını yansıtmaktadır. Bu ölçütler toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri ve kadının gerek ailevi gerekse toplumsal yaşam içinde üstlendiği rolleri, işlevini ve konumunu sergilemesi bakımından oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışmada söz konusu roman, anlatı yapısına doğrudan yerleştirilen veya dolaylı olarak sızdırılan feminist imgeler aracılığıyla okunmaya çalışılacaktır. İngiliz Yazını klasiklerinden biri olarak değerlendirilen roman özellikle de yazıldığı dönem itibariyle önemli feminist düşünceler içermekte, kadına karşı bakış açısı ve ona yüklenen roller bakımından farklı açılımlar yapmaktadır. Roman gerek bir kadın yazar tarafından kaleme alınması gerekse başkişilerin kadın olması yönüyle pek çok feminist imgeye sahiptir. Romanı bu imgeler ışığında okumak romanın yazıldığı dönem koşulları ve toplum yapısı hakkında bilgilendirici olmasının yanında değişen kadın algısının yansımalarını göstermesi bakımından da günümüz yazın çalışmalarına model olacak niteliklere sahiptir. Çalışmada feminist yöntembilim ilkeleri bağlamında romanda yer alan evlilik, miras, aile kavramlarının toplumsal cinsiyet algısıyla kazandıkları anlamlar bulgulanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu algıda özellikle kadının konumu örtük ya da açık biçimde içerdikleri göndermeler bakımından değerlendirilmiştir. Romanın ana eksenini kadın ve kadınlık olgusu oluşturduğundan yapıtın anlamsal ve biçimsel özellikleri feminist imgelerle değerlendirilecektir. Romanın basitleştirilmiş ve dil öğretimine uyarlanabilecek dilsel özellikleri söz ettiğimiz imgelerin yalnızca yazınsal ve feminist öğretiler bakımından değil aynı zamanda eğitsel yönden de varsıl olabileceğini göstermektedir. Bu yüzden romanı feminist imgeler ışığında okumak geniş bir bakış açısı sunmayı hedeflemektedir.
The first novel of Jane Austen is written in Sense and Sensibility Letter. The work, which was published in three leaves, has been made many corrections from 1790 to 1811. The novel, which has been translated into different languages, reflects the norms of the English society in a social, economic, mental, moral and ethical perspective. These criteria are very important in terms of social gender roles and the role, function and position of the woman in the social life, whether family or family. In this study, the novel will be tried to be read through feminist images that are directly placed or indirectly scattered into the narrative structure. The novel, which is considered one of the classics of the English Writing, includes important feminist thoughts, especially since the time it was written, making different opening points in terms of the perspective of the woman and the roles charged with her. The novel needs to be written by a female writer, and many feminist images have the direction of being female. Reading the novel in the light of these images has the qualities to be a model for the work of this summer in terms of being informative about the period conditions in which the novel is written and the social structure in addition to showing the reflections of the changing female perception. In the study, in the context of the principles of feminist methodology, the novel has sought to find the meanings that marriage, heritage, family concepts gain with social gender perception. In this perception, the position of the woman is especially assessed in terms of covered or clearly contained messages. Since the main axis of the novel is the female and female phenomenon, the meaningful and formal characteristics of the work will be assessed by feminist images. The simplified and linguistic characteristics of the novel that can be adapted to the language teaching indicate that the images we talk about can be realistic not only in terms of written and feminist teachings but also in educational terms. That’s why reading the novel in the light of feminist images aims to provide a broad perspective.
Sense and Sensibility, the first novel of British novelist Jane Austen and mostly about affection, was written in the letter format. The work was distributed in three volumes, and numerous amendments were made to it from the 1790s to 1811. The novel, which has been translated into various languages, mirrors the standards of the British society as far as social, monetary, scholarly, good and moral perspectives with its title and narrative structure. These models are significant regarding gender roles and how women perform their roles, capacity and position in both family and public activity. In this respect, the novel highlights feminist images that are either straightforwardly or indirectly embedded into the story structure. The tale, which is viewed as one of the master works of art of the British Literature, contains significant women's considerations as of the time it was composed, and makes various developments as far as the viewpoint towards women and the roles ascribed to them. Considering the novel in the light of these pictures of these images has the qualities to be a model for the work of today's literature in terms of being informative about the conditions and social structure of the period in which the novel was written, as well as showing the reflections of the changing perception of women. In the context of feminist methodology and gender, the meanings of marriage, inheritance and family were tried to be found in the novel. In this perception, especially the position of the woman is appreciated in terms of the references they contain either implicitly or explicitly. Since the main pivot of the novel is the phenomenon of women and femininity, the semantic and formal features of the work are tried to be read with feminist images. The linguistic features of the novel that can be adapted to language teaching show that the images we mentioned can be not only in terms of literary and feminist teachings, but also educational aspects. Therefore, reading the novel in the light of feminist images has given a broad perspective of women over the history.
