The aim of this review is to compare different exercise protocols and intensities on the hypotensive response of individuals with high blood pressure and hypertension. Searches for articles were performed on the SciELO and PubMed data base. Inclusion criteria were:studies that assess blood pressure levels in pre-hypertensive and hypertensive people after one or more exercise sessions (whether aerobic or resistance exercise). No restrictions were applied regarding drug interventions or comorbidities. Eighteen articles were included in this study. According to the findings, resistance exercise was more effective at moderate and submaximal intensities (50% to 80% of 1RM). Aerobic exercise was also effective in reducing blood pressure, and it can be applied individually or in conjunction with resistance exercise. Combined exercises had very effective results when aerobic exercise was combined before and after the resistance exercise session.
