Abstract:

Many studies have found that teachers have an important role in tolerance education. In this context, teachers are one of the most fundamental factors in the formation of tolerance and culture of living together in schools. For this purpose, the study has been addressed to the tolerance value of the teaching candidates on the individual and professional approaches and the contribution to the formation of the value of the education they receive.   The phenomenology, which is one of the quality research patterns, has been used to reveal this. Data collected with a semi-configured interview form from twenty-seven teachers candidates studying in the different departments of the Afyon Kocatepe University Education Faculty, and analyzed with the content analysis technique. The content analysis process consists of the data coding, the finding of themes gathering the codes under certain categories, the organization and identification of the data according to the codes and themes and the interpretation of the findings. According to the findings obtained, the teacher candidates expressed tolerance as a cultural, behavioral and sensational value. According to the teacher candidates, a teacher must be tolerant in terms of both human and professional qualities.  Teachers who point out that university life contributes to being tolerant are the opinions that professional knowledge courses affect it.
