Abstract:

This study was mainly aimed at determining the differences between the future expectations and perceptions of high school students who received tourism education in the days of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the various socio-demographic variables. This study in which the Nicel method is used is an imaging study based on the general scan model. The data related to the survey was collected through an online survey in May 2021. In the framework of the study, 453 surveys were collected and each survey was subject to an assessment in terms of accuracy, consistency and completeness. This assessment resulted in the decision to remove the data set of eight surveys that do not create a sense of confidence in the researchers and the analysis of 445 surveys was carried out. This scope includes percentage, frequency, arithmetic average, t-test and Multi-Variant Variant Analysis (MANOVA) analysis. According to the research results, despite the pandemic, the proportion of students looking forward to the future related to their career and want to continue working in the tourism sector is high. But in this process, it seems that there is no hope and faith in finding a job after high school graduation. The number of students who believe that their education is sufficient in this way can be successful in the industry is high. On the other hand, the percentage of those who think the tourism sector is not a reliable choice due to the pandemic is 44.7%. As a result, long-term the vast majority of students seem to look forward to their career developments with hope and want to overwhelm this situation by continuing their higher education. In general, it has been found that the student’s negative attitude towards the tourism sector is due to the working conditions.
