Temuge, the youngest son of Yesugei Ba'atur and Hoelun is the subject of this study. As he was Yesugei's youngest son, he was given the name Otchigin, which meant in English the "Prince of Fire and House". Temuge's father passed away when he was very young, leaving him an orphan. After his father’s death, he was able to make it through with the help of his mother and his other brothers. When his eldest brother Temuchin adopted the name Genghis Khan and established his own empire, Otchigin assisted him constantly in the process. Thus, Genghis Khan rewarded Temuge rewarded with an army and a yurt, which improved his standing. Even after the death of Genghis Khan, Temuge was able to hold onto his post. However after the death of Ogedei Khagan in 1241, he attempted to take over the khaganate and he stood trial in 1246, during the reign of Goyuk Khan, who in the meantime ascended to the throne. Some researchers claim that he was put to death as a result of the trial, although the chronicles do not support this claim. The events of the year 1246, however, are the last mention with regard to his life.
