İzmir 15 Mayıs 1919 tarihinde Yunanlılar tarafından işgal edildi. Mondros Mütarekesi’nin yedinci maddesine dayanılarak yapılan bu haksız işgal hareketi İstanbul ve Anadolu’daki Türk halkı tarafından tepkiyle karşılandı. Bu tepki İstanbul Hükümeti ve İstanbul’daki İtilaf Devletleri temsilcilerine çekilen protesto telgrafları, yapılan miting ve protestolar yoluyla ortaya konuldu. Kastamonu, İzmir’in işgaline yoğun tepkilerin gösterildiği şehirlerden biriydi. Bu durumun ortaya çıkmasında Açıksöz Gazetesi önemli bir yere sahiptir. Gazete, İzmir’in Yunan idaresine girdiği andan başlayarak işgalden kurtuluşuna kadar geçen süreç hakkında Kastamonu halkını bilgilendirdi. Kastamonu halkı, Açıksöz gazetesinin İzmirlilere yardım çağrılarına duyarsız kalmadı. Yunan zulmü altındaki İzmir ve İzmirlilere maddi ve manevi destek sağladı.
Ismir was occupied by the Greeks on May 15, 1919. This unfair occupation movement, based on the seventh article of the Mondros Convention, was welcomed by the Turkish people in Istanbul and Anadolu with a reaction. This reaction was revealed through protest telegraphs drawn to the Government of Istanbul and representatives of the Opposition States in Istanbul, demonstrations and protests. Kastamonu was one of the cities where strong reactions were shown to the occupation of Izmir. In this case, the publication of the newspaper has an important place. The newspaper informed the people of Kastamonu about the process from the moment that Izmir entered the Greek administration, starting from occupation to liberation. The people of Kastamonu have not been sensitive to the calls for help from the Official Gazette. He provided material and spiritual support to the Izmir and Izmirites under the Greek persecution.

From the moment that İzmir entered under the Greek administration, Açıksöz newspaper had an important place in informing the people of Kastamonu about the oppression, persecution and massacres of the people of İzmir. In this period it closely followed Izmir and the situation of the people of Izmir. It had an important place that the people of Kastamonu embrace the hands of the people of İzmir and help to extend their hands.
