Abstract:

The objective of this research is to develop a high reliability and validity measurement tool aimed at determining the levels of social media addiction of university students. 54 articles related to the structure were written by the researcher by scanning the relevant area; 7 experts were consulted with the expert opinion form prepared by the researcher. According to the opinions obtained by experts, the scale of 41 articles 5 classified in category 5 was applied to 523 university students. The results of the obtained data were tried to be revealed by factor analysis. The scale is made up of 3 factors: “Disruption in Operationality” alone describes 42.626% of the common variance, “Control Weakness and Disability” alone describes 9.517% of the common variance, and finally “Social Isolation” alone describes 5.608% of the common variance. The factor loads of the scale consisting of 26 items range from .493 to .792 . The correlation between the scale attempted to develop for measurement validity and the scale of problematic internet use was found at 0.75. The internal consistency ratio of the measurement is cronbach α .95, for the control difficulty and absence sub-dimensional Cronbach α .92, for the functional disruption sub-dimensional cronbach α . For the under-dimension of social isolation, Cronbach is calculated as .81. According to these findings, it can be said that the Social Media Addiction Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
