Abstract:

Communication, which forms a large part of the health service offer, is the basis of medical care. With effective communication, the right exchange of information can establish good relationships and understand the needs of the individual. Being a foreigner in a country, not understanding the language spoken in that country, is a risk in the transportation to healthcare. Immigration is an action caused by social change and affects the whole society in both the immigrant and the immigrant country. When it comes to the process of adjustment from the point of view of health communication, it is first encountered with classical communication obstacles. Although the concept of "mother language" in the beginning of them, when it comes to the subdimensions, the language of speech, the characters of writing, the terminology, the visual symbols, the used alphabet, the mouth and the shive differences also hold an important place. Immigrants may have difficulty describing their health problems due to their native language and cultural differences, and a need for a translator (translator) may arise. The experience that health workers experience with immigrants is also important and may often experience communication-related difficulties such as lack of communication, lack of informed confirmation, lack of empathy, diagnosis and treatment process failure. With big steps to facilitate the provision of health services to migrants in our country, separate health centers have been established, translator support has been provided within the existing health centers, call centers have been established and foreign health personnel have been employed. However, the biggest obstacle to foreigners’ access to healthcare is the communication problems. In particular, in order to close the skilled translator gap, it is necessary to encourage community translation services, to develop the health and communication skills of existing translators.
