Abstract:

Research of sustainability sites in small tourist cities: example of Akyaka
2023

Abstract:

Small cities, with their own unique formations in the context of the natural and local environment, are valuable settlements where today the tourist trend is often seen. While the environmental objects that make the tourism source open the small cities to the experience of many visitors, this situation makes the continuity of environmental and socio-cultural values inevitable to be discussed. It is a well-known fact that tourism can contribute positively to the development of these environments. On the other hand, increased urban visibility depending on tourism may lead to the risk of loss of urban values. Excessive consumption of environmental resources, natural structure deterioration, pollution and waste state, the destruction of coastal areas and forests, the damage to cultural heritage and historical texture, environmental damage reflect the negative effects of tourism mobility. In this study, natural and cultural environmental disruptions in small tourist cities have been identified as a problem area. The aim of the study is to explore sustainability components that will allow the transfer of natural and cultural resources to the future in small tourist cities in our country and to develop recommendations for the protection of the natural environment from tourist activity. The method of study consists of an analysis and a systematic classification of a total of 32 documents in the form of reports, regulations, contracts and advisory reports published by various organizations from the past to the present in the framework of international meetings where the environment-tourism interaction is discussed. This classification is created by the analysis and synthesis of the tourism indicators acquired by the analysis of many data, through the academic knowledge. This classification, which contains sustainability components, has been evaluated, for example, by the 'Protection of the Natural Environment' in the city of Akyaka. As a fundamental result of the study, it was found that in the preservation of the natural environment, the components developed in common parts. In this context, the need for cooperation, control and protection consciousness and measures towards natural environmental components arises. The solution proposals discussed through the city of Akyaka are expected to allow other small tourist cities with similar problems to evaluate sustainability. The study is believed to be effective in providing local/regional/global trade unions to preserve the assets of our country’s original settlements and in making better decisions by all stakeholders and in providing guidance for future research.

Investigation Of Sustainability Components In Small Tourism Cities: The Case Of Akyaka
2023

Abstract:

Today, according to tourism trends, small cities with their unique character in terms of natural and local environments are valuable commodities. The environmental elements that constitute a tourism resource open small cities to experiencing many visitors, which makes it prudent to consider the continuity of the cities' environmental and socio-cultural values. Although it is well known that tourism can add to the development of such environments, the increase in the visibility of the cities due to tourism may increase the risk that they will lose their urban values. The adverse effects of tourism mobility are excessive consumption of environmental resources, deterioration of the natural structure, pollution and waste, destruction of forests, and environmental destruction, including damage to cultural heritage and historical texture. In this study, deterioration in the natural and cultural environment in small tourism cities has identified as the problem area. The aim of the study is to investigate the sustainability components that will ensure the transfer of natural and cultural resources to the future in these settlements and to develop suggestions for the protection of the natural environment against tourism activity. The method of the study consists of the analysis of a total of 32 documents, which are declarations, contracts and recommendations published by various organizations from past to present within the scope of international meetings where the interaction of environment-tourism was discussed, and a systematic qualitative classification. This classification was created by filtering and synthesizing the tourism indicators obtained through the analysis of many data. As an example of this classification based on sustainability components, Akyaka is evaluated within the scope of the 'Conservation of the Natural Environment'. As a basic result of the study, it is determined that the components develop in common denominators in the protection of the natural environment. Precautions for natural environmental components should be taken on cooperation, control and protection awareness. It is envisaged that the solution proposals discussed over the city of Akyaka will allow the sustainability assessments of other small tourism cities that have similar problems. It is thought that the study can be effective in terms of ensuring local/regional/global collaborations and making better decisions for all stakeholders in order to preserve the existence of our country's unique settlements and can guide prospective research.
