Abstract:

Purpose: This study was aimed at examining the effectiveness of training to be given to patients with hypertension on adaptation to medication therapy. Material and Method: The study was carried out with 70 patients with hypertension and registered to the Yenişehir Family Health Center between April 2014 and March 2015. In the collection of data, a identifying survey was used containing general information about the patient’s socio-demographic characteristics and diseases and the Morisky Drug Compliance Scale (MMAS-8). After the pre-test, the patients were informed about the drug conformity and hypertension disease and the general information brochures created by the researcher in order to ensure the continuity of the drug use and training were distributed. The final test was then applied to assess the effectiveness of the training. Results: When the scale of compliance of patients with hypertension with Morisky drug treatment was assessed, 35.7% of patients with pre-training and post-training drug treatment had a low degree of compliance with the drug treatment, 64.3% had a medium degree of compliance. The low post-training consistency has been found to increase more than half (57.1) of the high-training consistency, where the low post-training consistency has fallen to 10.0% and the average consistency has fallen to 32.9%, and the statistical analysis also found that the scale of consistency to Morisky drug therapy has significantly increased between the pre-training score average (5.22±1.30) and the post-training score average (7.17±1.21) and that the difference between them is statistically significant (p<0.001). The result: In this study, the training in compliance with the drug treatment given to hypertension patients has been found to be effective on patients.
