Bu çalışma, bir vakıf üniversitesi fakülte öğrenci temsilcileri ve kulüp başkanlarının liderlik özellikleri ile buna göre hangi liderlik davranış tarzlarını benimsediklerini ve liderlik kavramına bakış açılarını belirlemek amacı ile nitel araştırma olarak gerçekleştirildi. Araştırma İstanbul ilinde bir vakıf üniversitesinde gerçekleştirildi. Örneklemin belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örneklemesi kullanıldı. Araştırma verileri 28.08.2018 tarihinde yapılan odak grup görüşmesinde toplanmıştır. Verilerin elde edilmesinde, nitel bir veri toplama tekniği olan odak grup görüşmesinden yararlanıldı. Çalışmada araştırmacılar tarafından belirlenen ve bilgi edinilmesinin hedeflendiği liderlik kavramı temasını içeren 4 soru ve Cansoy ve Turan’nın gençlik liderlik özellikleri çerçevesinde geliştirdikleri ölçek geliştirme çalışmalarındaki soruların yer aldığı yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanıldı. Elde edilen veriler ses kayıt cihazına kaydedildi. Ses kayıt cihazı verileri Microsoft Word’e aktarıldı. Çalışmamızda nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden birisi olan içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizinde Microsoft Office Excel programından yararlanıldı. Çalışmada öğrenci temsilcisi ve kulüp başkanlarının en belirgin liderlik özelliğinin sırası ile güven duyma ve güvenilir olma, iletişim becerisi ve hedef koyma ve mücadele etme olduğu belirlendi. Araştırmada öğrencilerin karar verme ve ikinci sırada problem çözme özelliğinden en düşük frekansı aldıkları görüldü. Genel olarak en yüksek liderlik özellikleri frekansı F, K ve L öğrencileri, en düşük frekansı ise I, A, B ve G öğrencilerinin aldığı görüldü. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgular sonucunda, öğrenci temsilcisi ve kulüp başkanlarının demokratik-katılımcı liderlik tipi ve vizyoner liderlik tipine yakın oldukları belirlendi. Öğrencilerin karar verme ve problem çözme özelliklerinde pasif liderler oldukları düşünülmektedir. Öğrenciler sergiledikleri düşük liderlik özellikleri ile geliştirilmeye açık liderler olarak tanımlanabilir.
This study was conducted as a qualified research with the aim of determining the leadership behavior styles they adopted according to the leadership characteristics of a foundation university faculty student representatives and club chairs and their perspective on the leadership concept. The study was conducted at a foundation university in Istanbul. Examples were used to identify the methods of sampling. The research data was collected in the focus group meeting held on 28.08.2018. In obtaining data, a focus group conversation, which is a quality data collection technique, was used. The study used a semi-configured interview form that includes the leadership concept topic identified by the researchers and aimed at acquiring information, and the questions in the scale development studies developed by Cansoy and Turan in the framework of youth leadership characteristics. The data received was recorded on the audio recording device. The audio recording device data has been transferred to Microsoft Word. In our study, one of the qualitative research methods of content analysis technique was used. The research data was analyzed using Microsoft Office Excel. The study determined that the student representatives and club chairs are the most distinctive leadership characteristics in order to be confident and reliable, communication skills and targeting and fighting. The study found that students received the lowest frequency from the ability to make decisions and solve problems in the second place. In general, the highest leadership characteristics were seen by the frequency of students F, K and L, while the lowest frequency was received by students I, A, B and G. The findings obtained in the study found that student representatives and club chairs were close to the democratic-participating leadership type and the visionary leadership type. Students are considered to be passive leaders in their decision-making and problem-solving qualities. Students can be defined as open leaders to develop with the low leadership qualities they show.
This study has been carried out as a qualitative research with the aim of specifying the leadership characteristics of the faculty student representatives and club chairs of a foundation university and which leadership attitudes they adopt accordingly and also to determine their points of view of the leadership concept. The research has been conducted at a foundation university in Istanbul city. In specifying the sampling, criterion sampling from among purposive sampling methods. Research data were collected from the focus group discussion held on 28.08.2018. The focus group discussion as a qualitative data collection technique was used to obtain data. In the study the semi – structured interview form including 4 questions with the theme leadership concept determined by the researchers, which aimed to collect information, and the questions developed by Cansoy and Turan within the framework of youth leadership characteristics in their scale development study was used. The data obtained were recorded in an audio recorder. The audio recording data were transferred to Microsoft word. In our study the content analysis technique, a qualitative research method, has be Microsoft Office Excel has been used for the analysis of the research data. In the study it was determined that the most prominent leadership characteristics of the student representatives and club chairs are respectively, trust and being trustworthy, communication and setting targets and struggling. In the research it was observed that the students received the lowest frequency in decision – making and the second lowest in problem – solving features. It was also observed that generally the highest leadership characteristics frequency was received by the students F, K and L and the lowest frequency was received by students I, A, B and G. As a result of the findings obtained from the research it has been determined that student representatives and club chairs are close to democratic – participatory leadership type and visionary leadership type. It is considered that students are passive leaders in decision – making and problem – solving characteristics. With the low leadership characteristics the students display, they can be defined as leaders open to be improved.
