Abstract Abstract: This paper discusses Gonçalves Dias' poem “A Queda de Satanás”, included in his book Últimos Cantos. Although there is no mention of the original poem in Gonçalves Dias' book, we show that it is a partial translation of Édouard Turquety's poem “La chute de Satan”, which seems to have gone unnoticed until now. We seek to analyze some translation choices made by the Brazilian poet, with emphasis on the metric structure. Finally, we briefly discuss the translation work of Gonçalves Dias making use of Haroldo de Campos' concept of translation as "transluciferation".
