Abstract:

Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors and Related Influencing Factors of Midwifery Students Objective: The aim of this research was to determine healthy lifestyle behaviors effect of sociodemographic characteristics and educational processes on midwifery students. Method: The study was carried in the academic year 2006-2007 at Midwifery Department of High School of Health in university as a descriptive design was conducted on 132 students attending. In the collection of the data personal information form and consisting of 48 items that are rated four point likert-type Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale were used. The data were evaluated by SPSS 14.0 program. The data were analyzed using number and percentage distribution, student's t test, Man-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test and analysis of variance. Statistically significant relationship between the variables in determining were based on p<0.05 value Results: Total score of Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale of the students participating in the research is 126.73±20.91 and sub-group scale scores; self-actualisation is 37.62±6.63, health responsibility is 24.18±5.49, exercise is 9.58±3.29, nutrition is 15.94±3.22, interpersonal support is 21.06±3.88, stress management is 18.31±3.83. When the healthy lifestyle behaviors of the students and the related scores they got are studied according to the variables, it was seen that the students whose fathers’ have a middle school or higher degree, with high income levels, monthly requirements met sufficiently, and participate in sports activities have higher scores and the difference is statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: The Healty Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale mean score of the students was found to be in moderate level in the study. The highest mean scores obtained from the scale were found sub-groups that selfactualisation, interpersonal support and nutrition. Marital status, parental education level, income level and to participate in spors activities status were found to affect the behavior of a healthy lifestyle.
