Abstract:

Having experienced similar weaving processes with Anatolian cities, Muş and its environs have rich weaving samples due to being in the center of the Silk Road. Carpets, kilims, and warp-faced weavings, which are also seen in the central districts and villages of Bulanık, confirm this information. Although weaving is finished today, the local people own hand-woven weaving and use it in daily life. In 2020, field research was conducted in Muş Bulanık district center and villages with scanning method. Due to the pandemic process, we went to the houses by invitation. As a result of the research, 28 carpet pillow samples were examined, but 20 samples were included here. In these examples, the technical structure, the material used, and the pattern structure were examined. Warp, weft and loop are wool in almost all of the examples in which the Turkish (Gördes) knot technique is used. There are also stylized vegetal samples in the samples where geometric pattern compositions are dominant. Pillow compositions are woven in 1/4 rapport. In addition to this, there are also examples with pictures (mosque and minaret) on the ground filled with small motifs. During the field research, information about weaving was obtained from weavers and collectors. The carpet and pillow weavings here belong to the collections of Hasret Aydın, Fazıl Çelik, residing in the village of Bulanık Balotu (Teğûd), and Maşuk Balıkçı, residing in the village of Uzgörur (Neynik).
