Cholangiocarcinomas located at the bifurcation of the common bile duct are termed as Klatskin tumors. In inoperable patients, the best palliation is achieved by bilateral drainage of bile ducts using metal stents. Due to localization of the tumor, calibration of extrahepatic bile ducts remains normal while intrahepatic ducts dilate, and it is usually impossible to implant two metallic stents into the common bile duct side-by-side. Herein, we present such a patient, whose bilateral bile duct drainage was achieved using a Y-stent, which is specifically developed for these patients.
Cholangiocarcinomas located at the bifurcation of the common even duct are referred to as Klatskin tumors. In inoperable patients, the best palliation is achieved by bilateral drainage of even ducts using metal stents. Due to the localization of the tumor, the calibration of extrahepatic even ducts remains normal while intrahepatic ducts dilate, and it is usually impossible to implant two metallic stents into the common even duct side-by-side. Herein, we present such a patient, whose bilateral even duct drainage was achieved using a Y-stent, which is specifically developed for these patients.
