Amaç: Ebe ve hemşirelerin empati becerileri ve kültürlerarası iletişimleri arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma örneklemi araştırma kriterlerine uygun olan 426 ebe ve hemşireden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu, Empatik Eğilim Ölçeği ve Kültürlerarası Etkililik Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya yaşları 21-55 arasında değişen, %74,6’sı lisans düzeyinde olan 426 ebe/hemşire katılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan ebe/hemşirelerin %57’sinin çoğunlukla hastaları anlama konusunda kendilerini yeterli buldukları, %73,2’sinin ise hasta yakını ile olumsuz iletişim deneyimi olduğu saptanmıştır. Ebe/hemşirelerin ölçeklerden aldıkları puan ortalamasının Empatik Eğilim Ölçeği 71,00±8,01, Kültürlerarası Etkililik Ölçeği 64,59±8,84 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Kültürlerarası Etkililik Ölçeği ile Empatik Eğilim Ölçeği arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Ebe/hemşirelerin etkin kültürlerarası iletişim kurma ve empati becerisine sahip oldukları saptanmıştır. Empati becerisi ile kültürlerarası iletişim kurma becerisi arasında pozitif yönde, düşük düzeyde ve anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu, empati becerileri arttıkça bakımda kültürlerarası duyarlılıklarının da arttığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
Objective: It was conducted to determine the relationship between the empathy skills and intercultural communication of midwives and nurses. Material and Method: The research sample consists of 426 midwives and nurses who meet the research criteria. The data for the study were collected using three forms. These are the the Introductory Information Form, the Empathic Tendency Scale and the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale. Results: 426 midwives/nurses aged 21-55, 74.6% of whom were at the undergraduate level, participated in the study. It was determined that 57% of the midwives/nurses participating in the study mostly found themselves sufficient in understanding the patients, and 73.2% had negative communication with the patient's relatives. It was determined that the total mean score of the Intercultural Effectiveness scale of the midwives/nurses participating in the study was 64.59±8.84, and the total mean score of the Empathic Tendency scale was 71.00±8.01. A significant relationship was found between the Empathic Tendency Scale and the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale. Conclusion: It has been determined that the midwives/nurses have the ability to communicate effectively and empathize. It was concluded that there is a positive, low and significant relationship between the ability to empathize and the ability to communicate.
