SAĞLIK HİZMETLERİ ALANINDA ÖĞRENİM GÖREN ÖĞRENCİLERİN YAŞLILARA YÖNELİK TUTUMLARININ BELİRLENMESİ

Abstract:

Bu araştırma sağlık hizmetleri alanında öğrenim gören öğrencilerin yaşlılara yönelik tutumlarını ve bu tutumları etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacı ile tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini bir üniversitenin Sağlık Hizmetleri Meslek Yüksekokulunda 2019-2020 Güz yarıyılında Yaşlı Bakım, Tıbbi Tanıtım ve Pazarlama ve Tıbbi Dokümantasyon ve Sekreterlik programlarında öğrenim gören ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden toplam 180 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri Katılımcı Bilgi Formu ve UCLA Geriatrik Tutum ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Çalışmada katılımcıların %75.6’sının kadın, yaş ortalamasının 19.90±2.90, %60’ının 1. sınıfta olduğu, %77.2’sinin çekirdek aileye sahip olduğu, %50.0’ının yaşamının bir bölümünde yaşlı bir akraba ile aynı evde yaşadığı, katılımcıların yalnızca %40.0’ının daha önce bir huzurevini ziyaret ettiği tespit edilmiştir. UCLA Geriatrik Tutum ölçeğinden alınan toplam puan ortalaması 48.55±5.18’dir. Ölçek alt boyutları puan ortalamaları sosyal değer 6.13±1.49, tıbbi bakım 12.22±2.43, şefkat 15.71±2.90 ve kaynak dağılımı 14.47±2.30 olarak belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların sosyodemografik özellikleri açısından UCLA Geriatrik Tutum ölçeği puan ortalamaları arasında anlamlı fark bulunamamıştır. Öğrenim görülen program açısından değerlendirildiğinde, sosyal değer alt boyutunda Tıbbi Tanıtım ve Pazarlama programındaki katılımcıların Tıbbi Dokümantasyon ve Sekreterlik programındaki katılımcılara göre, şefkat alt boyutunda ise Yaşlı Bakım programındaki katılımcıların Tıbbi Tanıtım ve Pazarlama programındaki katılımcılara göre daha yüksek puanlara sahip olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu araştırmanın sonucunda, sağlık hizmetleri alanında öğrenim gören öğrencilerin yaşlı bireylere yönelik tutumlarının orta düzeyde olumlu olduğu ve sosyodemografik özelliklerin öğrencilerin yaşlılara yönelik tutumlarında bir fark oluşturmadığı belirlenmiştir.

This research has been done to identify the attitudes of students studying in the field of health care towards the elderly and the factors affecting these attitudes. The sample of the study consists of a total of 180 students studying and accepting to participate in the research at the University's Health Services Professional High School in the 2019-2020 semester of the Year in the Elderly Care, Medical Promotion and Marketing and Medical Documentation and Secretariat programs. The research data was collected using the Participant Information Form and the UCLA Geriatric Attitude Scale. In the study, 75.6% of participants were women, the average age was 19.90±2.90, 60% were in first class, 77.2% were native families, 50%. It was found that 0 lived in the same house with an elderly relatives for a part of their lives, and only 40.0% of participants had previously visited a residence. The total score from the UCLA Geriatric Attitude Scale is 48.55±5.18. The scale sub-dimensions score average; social value is 6.13±1.49, medical care is 12.22±2.43, compassion is 15.71±2.90 and resource distribution is 14.47±2.30. In terms of the participant’s sociodemographic characteristics, there was no significant difference between the score average of the UCLA Geriatric Attitude scale. When evaluated from the perspective of the program, the social value is found that the participants in the Medical Promotion and Marketing Program in the low-dimensional level have higher scores compared to the participants in the Medical Documentation and Secretariat Program, and in the low-dimensional level the participants in the Medical Promotion and Marketing Program in the low-dimensional level. The study found that the attitudes of students studying in the field of health care towards elderly individuals were positive at a medium level and that the sociodemographic characteristics did not make a difference in the attitudes of students towards elderly individuals.

This research has been carried out descriptively, in order to determine the attitudes of students studying in the field of health services towards the elderly and the factors effecting these attitudes. The sample of the study is consisted of 180 students studying at the departments of Elderly Care, Medical Promotion and Marketing, and Medical Documentation and Secretariat in Health Services Vocational School of a university in the fall semester of 2019-2020 academic year and volunteered to participate in the study. The data of the study have been collected by using the Participant Information Form and the UCLA Geriatrics Attitudes Scale / UCLA-GA. In the research it has been determined that, of the participants; 75.6% were female, mean age was 19.90±2.90, 60% were at 1st grade, 77.2% were living in a nuclear family, 50.0% had lived in the same house with an elderly relatively in some part of their lives, only 40.0% of them had visited a nursing home before. The total average score of the UCLA-GA scale is 48.55 ± 5.18. The subscale means have been determined as; 6.13±1.49 for social values, 12.22 ± 2.43 for medical care, 15.71± 2.90 for compassion and 14.47 ± 2.30 for resource distribution. No significant difference has been determined in mean scores of the participants in terms of socio-demographic features and UCLA Geriatrics Attitudes Scale. When the studied departments are evaluated, the participants from Medical Promotion and Marketing department got higher scores than the participants of Medical Documentation and Secretariat department at social values subscale, the participants of Elderly Care department got higher scores than the participants of Medical Promotion Marketing department at compassion subscale. According to the findings of the research it has been determined that, the students of Health Services departments had medium level positive attitudes towards elderly individuals, and their sociodemographic features did not cause any difference in their attitudes towards elderly individuals.
