Sınıf Öğretmeni Adaylarının Matematik ve Geometriye Karşı Tutumları Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Bu çalışma Eğitim Fakültesi Sınıf Öğretmenliği Bölümü birinci sınıfta öğrenim gören üniversite öğrencilerinin matematiğe yönelik tutumları ile geometriye yönelik tutumları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Betimsel bir yaklaşımla yürütülen bu araştırma kapsamında öğrencilerin matematiğe yönelik tutumları ile geometriye yönelik tutumları değişkenler olarak kabul edilmiş ve bu değişkenler arasındaki ilişki incelendiği için araştırmanın modeli ilişkisel tarama olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunda Manisa Celal Bayar Üniversitesi Sınıf Öğretmenliği Lisans Programı birinci sınıfında öğrenim gören 96 öğrenci yer almaktadır. Çalışmada veri toplamak için araç olarak matematik tutum ölçeği ve geometri tutum ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistikler ve basit korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının geometriye yönelik tutumlarının orta düzeyde olduğunu matematiğe yönelik ise olumlu tutumlara sahip olduklarına işaret etmektedir. Kadın katılımcıların geometri tutum puanlarının, erkek katılımcıların ise matematik tutum puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir. Matematik tutum puanları ile geometri tutum puanları arasında orta düzeyde ve pozitif yönlü bir korelasyon olduğu söylenebilir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına bağlı olarak, sınıf öğretmen adaylarının almış oldukları Temel Matematik ve Matematik Öğretimi derslerinde kullanılan öğretim yöntem ve tekniklerinin gözden geçirilmesi, bu derslerdeki geometri konularının ağırlıklarının artırılması, matematik derslerinin saatlerinin artırılması, Sınıf Öğretmenliği Programına zorunlu Geometri dersinin eklenmesi önerilmektedir.

Review of the relationship between the attitudes of classmatematics and geometry of teachers candidates

This study was carried out with the aim of studying the relationship between the attitudes to mathematics and the attitudes to geometry of university students studying in the first class. In this study, the attitudes of students to mathematics and the attitudes to geometry were considered variables and the model of the study was determined as a relative scan because the relationship between these variables was studied. The study group includes 96 students studying in the first class of the Manisa Celal Bayar University Class Teaching Bachelor Program. The study used mathematical attitude scale and geometry attitude scale as a tool to collect data. In the analysis of data, visual statistics and simple correlation analysis were used. The findings indicate that class teacher candidates’ attitudes towards geometry are on a medium level and that they have a positive attitude towards mathematics. The geometric attitude score of the women participants is higher, while the male attitude score of the women participants is higher. It can be said that there is a correlation between mathematical attitude points and geometry attitude points at a medium and positive level. Depending on the results of this study, it is recommended that class teacher candidates review the teaching methods and techniques used in the Basic Mathematics and Mathematics Teaching courses, increase the weight of the geometry subjects in these courses, increase the hours of mathematics courses, add the compulsory geometry course to the Class Teaching Program.

The Relationship Between Preservice Elementary Teachers’ Attitudes Towards Mathematics and Geometry

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between elementary school teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics and geometry. So, the model of the research was determined as correlational research model. Ninety-six students studying in the first year of the Manisa Celal Bayar University Elementary School Teacher Program constitute the study group. In this study, “mathematics attitude scale” and “geometry attitude scale” were used. For the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics and simple correlation analysis were used. Findings reveal that pre-service elementary school teachers’ attitudes towards geometry were at medium level, and they have positive attitudes towards mathematics. It is observed that the geometry attitudes of the female participants and the mathematics attitudes of the male participants are better. It can be said that there is a moderate and positive correlation between mathematics attitude scores and geometry attitude scores. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended to review the teaching methods and techniques used in the basic mathematics and mathematics teaching courses taken by pre-service elementary school teachers, to increase the weight of geometry subjects in these courses and the time allocated to the mathematics course, and to add a compulsory geometry course to the undergraduate program.
