Abstract:

Objective: To evaluate the nutritional composition of diets with detoxification claims on linked sites in the media. Materials and Methods: The data search was performed in July 2019 through the sites Google and Bing, in which the words in the search field were individually applied in portuguese: dieta detox, cardápio detox, dieta detoxificante, cardápio detoxificante, dieta desintoxificante e cardápio desintoxificante. The first three pages of each result were selected, including all sites that presented diets with quantities of food described. The diets were calculated using the Diet Win 2008 program and compared to the recommendations of the DRIs (Dietary Reference Intakes) for macronutrients and micronutrients, considering the values for adults between 19 and 50 years old. In addition, the most frequent foods among diets have been identified. Results: Diets with detoxifying claims from 24 sites were included. The analysis of the nutritional composition showed an average with low daily energy value (1101.7 kcal). Most diets are adequate to the recommendations of proteins (100%) and magnesium (83.3%). However, just over half of the websites met the recommendation for carbohydrates (54.2%) and lipids (62.5%), while less than half reached for fibers (41.7%) and zinc (29.2%) and no site has met the recommendations for calcium and iron. Among the most cited foods in diets, fruits and vegetables, especially cabbage, are present in 100% of diets. Conclusion: The evaluated diets show inadequacies in the distribution of macronutrients and micronutrients, presenting themselves as unsafe options for healthy weight loss.
