Abstract:

Environmental problems and environmental concerns have revealed the concept of green building, which is important for sustainability. Green buildings are sustainable structures that use resources efficiently and are healthy throughout the life cycle of the building. The construction industry increases the quality of life by meeting the needs of people. However, it consumes about 40% of the energy produced in the world. On the other hand, industrial sector consumes 28% of energy (Gonzalez etc., 2011, s.981). In this context, it is important that large and comprehensive structures such as industrial buildings are designed and implemented according to green building certification criteria. In this study, 10 industrial structures with LEED green building certification system in Kocaeli city are analyze on the basis of the evaluation categories of the certificate. The aim of the study is to determine which categories are prioritized for the industrial building type, what are the common solution points and to make evaluations between the buildings. The success rates of the buildings are compare with the order of importance of the LEED certification system. As a result, it has been revealed that industrial structures have achieved high success in water efficiency and sustainable site categories, but their success rates in the energy category are low.
