Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the teachers and directors’ opinions on the audit skills of the directors who are managing in the primary schools in the district of Izmir or Buca in the context of the clinical audit approach and to reveal their opinions on the effectiveness of both the directors and the teachers who work in these schools by the directors of the course audit activities. The research approach has been adopted in the structure of this study. The study’s work group consists of 22 teachers and 5 school managers who work in 5 primary schools in İzmir or Buca district. The research data were gathered in a semi-structured interview form and the visual content analysis resulted in the observation of the opinions of teachers and school managers included in the working group under the following nine main topics: the understanding of the audit, the satisfaction of the school manager of the audit, the pre-curricular process, the course audit process, the criteria used in the audit, the effects of the course audit on the teacher and student, the post-curricular process, the advantages of the course audit by the school manager, the disadvantages of the course audit by the school manager. When the opinions given under these topics are examined, it is clear that the course audit activities performed by the directors are not consistent with the principles of the clinical audit approach, the important stages adopted by the approach are ignored, the control-oriented understanding adopted in the audit activities previously carried out by the inspectors is continued, however, compared to the inspectors, the audit activities carried out by the school directors are perceived relatively more positively. In addition, it seems that school managers need a detailed and clear guidance on the process and effective service training support in order to gain knowledge and skills that can conduct the process in a healthy way.
