Abstract:

This research aims at finding relation between academic achievements of music teacher candidates studying in music teacher undergraduate program with type of high school they are graduated. Study is conducted with the survey of descriptive researches with a group consisting of 182 people. Significant differences were found in favor of graduates of other high schools especially in terms of “AGNO General”( GPA of all students in the study group) and “AGNO 1” (GPA of first grade students in the study group) factors between GSL (Fine Arts School) graduated music teacher candidates and graduates of “other high schools” with regards to AGNO (cumulative GPA). In addition, when 'averages' are examined it is observed that undergraduate program academic achievements of graduates of other high schools were higher that GSL graduated candidates in all classes. Relationship level between annual academic achievement and 'AGNO General' of other High School graduates as their class level progress if higher compared to GSL origin teacher candidates. In terms of undergraduate program academic achievement of music teacher candidates it was found that female music teacher candidates graduated both from GSL and 'other high schools' were more successful compared to male students and when average scores are examined other high school origin female and male candidates were more successful compared to GSL origin female and male candidates. When the findings are generalized it is concluded that expectation that music teacher candidates studying in undergraduate programs and graduated from GSL (Fine Arts School) should be more successful than teacher candidates graduated from other high schools is not realized.
