Abstract:

The English Teaching Program is of great importance to ensure that students communicate effectively and fluently in a foreign language, as well as to gain intercultural interest and be aware of the existence of different cultures. The aim of this study is to reveal how much institutions in the kind of Anadolu High School are placed in the multicultural elements in the English language curriculum by applying to the teachers (15 persons) opinions. The research is a qualitative study and is carried out within the framework of the "event science" design.  The data of the study was collected through a "conversation form consisting of open-published questions", the data was analyzed through the "content analysis technique". The results of the study were gathered and categorized under seven topics. Multiculturalism, Turkish Culture and Subjects, Language and Cultural Interaction, Universal Basic Problems, Social Structure and Integrity, Flexible Foreign Language Teaching Program and Cultural Awareness are the main topics determined. In the framework of these main themes, these results have been achieved. The teaching program includes multiculturalism but the English and/or American culture is more emphasized than other cultures, such as the Turkish culture; the emphasis on multiculturalism is not damaging the social structure and integrity; the program is flexible enough to include cultural elements; the cultural awareness is a value that should be awarded to students; the participants are pointing only to environmental issues in universal fundamental issues. As a result, it was determined that more flexibility and diversity in the program should be provided and that the objectives that develop inter-cultural talents should be included in the Foreign Language Teaching Program.
