In Şehirköy in 1863 (Pirot), the first Hometown Fund was established. After successful results were achieved by this fund it was widespread throughout the whole Ottoman Empire from the 1867s. this fund was financed by give and take theory which also enforced the sense of social assistance and solidarity. The Government Funds Lesbos, on the Island Lesvos was the first attempt in the field of agricultural credit during the Ottoman Empire Lesbos also formed the basis of the Bank. Although the non-Muslim population on the island firstly refused the idea, they later accepted the foundation of the bank.
