Purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions of 44 Philosophy students of the Faculty of Science and Arts, who were assessed using portfolio assessment within the scope of the educational technology and material design course taught in the teacher training program, towards the portfolio assessment method and its instruction. The present study was conducted within the phenomenological framework, one of the qualitative research methods. The data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire and analyzed using content analysis techniques. Findings show that, participants are in favor of being evaluated using portfolio assessment method, and they expressed that a detailed course on portfolio assessment should be included in the Faculties of Science and Letters and other departments as well as the faculties of education. Regarding the instruction of portfolio assessment method, they are of the opinion that it should be learnercentered, based on group activities, evaluated together with students, and taught as a compulsory course in teacher education programs
